Chaos Ascending: A Feast of Betrayal
NetGalley Review
“Overall, a pretty cool character driven story about war and assassins. Morally grey characters and an epic plot make this a series and author to watch out for. Looking forward to the next installment already:)”

“I enjoyed the first in this series, but I couldn’t put this installment down! In the first book, Reyne made me want to slap him silly for pushing against Mera, but I am happy to say that Reyne made a turnaround in this! There’s a lot of POV, but it isn’t hard to follow or switch gears like it can be in other novels. Instead, it adds a lot of dimensions to what’s going on. The chapter subtitles showing what day it is helps you realize that there is a lot at play at the same time and also makes it easier to keep track of the timelines. Overall this was an enjoyable read, and that ending threw me!! Can’t wait to read the next book and see what kind of chaos we’ll be thrown into!”

“…this story did have me in awe. The magic system is complex, but the mathematical system in which they make the magic more real, is quite impressive. The writing style of R.C. Vielee is also very interesting. I felt like I was back in high school, reading classical works in AP Literature.”

Literary Titan Review…
“Chaos Ascending: A Feast of Betrayal, by R.C. Vielee, emerges as a compelling dark fantasy novel, intricately weaving themes of internal conflict, fate, and the interplay of parallel universes. Set against a backdrop of political intrigue and spiritual turmoil, the story unfolds in a world teetering on the brink of collapse. The protagonist, Reyne, is thrust into a treacherous journey through the Void to Evidar, grappling with the burdens of deception and destiny while evading assassins. His story is a reflection of the broader narrative: the struggle of Tartica under Chancellor Tomelai’s oppressive rule and the looming threat of the Devil’s Blacksmith.
Reyne’s character is deftly portrayed, and his inner turmoil echoes the larger societal decay and the tension between conformity and rebellion. This complexity lends him a relatable depth, particularly in his struggles with moral ambiguity and trust, mirroring the human inclination to adapt for survival.
Mithany’s character complements this dynamic, offering a poignant exploration of guilt and honesty amid a web of deceit. The antagonist, known as the Devil’s Blacksmith, injects a palpable sense of dread into the narrative, embodying the despair and dangers lurking within the story’s universe. The juxtaposition of Evidar and Tartica skillfully illustrates the perpetual battle between darkness and light, resonating with the complexities and dualities of real life. Vielee’s novel is notable for its meticulous attention to detail and the seamless integration of sophisticated themes, especially the exploration of physics elements. The characters are crafted with depth and nuance, making their struggles and triumphs resonate with the reader.
Chaos Ascending is more than a fantasy novel; it’s a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition set against a richly imagined world. A highly recommended read for anyone seeking a compelling dark fantasy that will remain with the reader long after the last page is turned. Five stars.”

Amazon Review…
“I thoroughly enjoyed Chaos Ascending: A Feast of Betrayal, the second book of R.C. Vielee's dystopian fantasy trilogy. Vielee delivers in a big way on the same themes that made the first book, Utopia Falling, a compelling read. Love, treachery, greed, politics, physics, magic--they're all there and running deeper and with more complexity as the story unfolds. The "Chaos" mentioned in the title is triggered at the end of the first book with the proposal to dissolve the Covenant. Now, in Chaos Ascending, heads are rolling in Tartica and mayhem is rampant as civilization verges on collapse. Even the elites know trouble lies ahead and survival is at stake. Meanwhile, in the dark realm of Evidar, desperation thickens and the opportunity to avert disaster is slipping away each day that Reyne manages to avoid the Devil's Apprentice's assassins.
As a reader, you see all of this reflected in the actions and emotions of the characters and sense that everyone, good or evil, is hurtling toward a cataclysmic and explosive finale. This book comes with plenty of twists and surprises, too, and a cliffhanger ending that sets up the reader for what should be a riveting finale in Book 3.”
